Week 16 to 18: Thailand: Koh Tao and Samui. Life’s a beach!

Koh Tao
We chose to come to Koh Tao seeking a paradise island of white sand beaches and relaxation following the hectic schedule of the last four weeks.

However, next we find Ban’s Dive resort and sign up for the Padi Open Water Dive certificate. Four days of learning and challenging ourselves down to 18meters. Tiring but we pass with flying colours. After two days lying on the beach we head back to dive school for our advanced open water. The weather has become stormy and some of our dives are truly advanced – 30 meters below the surface, doing exercises with the instructor with visibility of one meter and swirling current. Again we pass and now feel we can really enjoy our new skills wherever we go in the world – though in most places the water will be colder than the 31 degrees we have been practicing in!

Koh Samui
Koh Samui is about 60 Kilometres south of Koh Tao and we are here for two reasons. 1. We thought we’d have a change from Koh Toa and 2. It has an international airport – we can leave Thailand without going back to Bangkok. Koh Samui is as empty as Koh Tao was! Whilst it is low season here people have also stayed away because of the Bangkok trouble. We spend a few days exploring and sunbathing waiting to leave Thailand.

Sunday sees us fly to Kuala Lumpur ahead of J
em’s parents arriving for a holiday with us starting Tuesday for two weeks. We can’t wait.
